YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University football program announced Wednesday, Jan. 3, the addition of quarterback Tyler Wiegers (Detroit Country Day-Iowa) as a graduate transfer from the University of Iowa. Wiegers (pronounced WEE-gers) will be eligible to compete for the Eagles this fall.

A four-star recruit in high school, Wiegers spent the past four seasons at Iowa (2014-17) and graduated in December with a degree in human physiology.

"We are definitely excited about Tyler coming back to the great state of Michigan to join our program," said EMU Head Coach Chris Creighton. "By being here this semester he will have the opportunity to get to know our team, learn our system and compete for the quarterback spot. We cannot wait to get started."

In four seasons in Iowa City, Wiegers played in eight games for the Hawkeyes. Overall, he was 4-for-6 passing for 35 yards, including a three-yard touchdown pass against the University of Illinois, Oct. 7, 2017.

Wiegers passed for 2,093 yards and 24 touchdowns as a senior at renowned Detroit Country Day. In two seasons, Wiegers threw for 4,558 yards and 46 touchdowns.

"I'm excited to join the program here at Eastern Michigan and look forward to the opportunity," Wiegers added. "Coach Creighton is building something special and I cannot wait to make an impact. It's great to be back home in Michigan, close to family, and have the chance to compete for playing time. I am very thankful and excited for the future."

Wiegers is enrolled in classes at EMU and pursuing a master's degree in human nutrition.

The addition of Wiegers brings EMU's 2018 early signing class to a total of 17. The highly anticipated class features 13 different players ranked by the national recruiting services, including six rated as three-star prospects.
