West Michigan Roundup, Thursday 3/11/21
West Michigan Roundup, Thursday 3/11/21
There was a decent amount of games last night with the largest one taking place at Schoolcraft. Benton Harbor came in and ended the longest winning streak in the state with a 68-49 win. The OK Red was as interesting as usual with Rockford falling to Grand Haven 35-31, West Ottawa sneaking past East Kentwood 52-50, and Hudsonville beating Caledonia again 55-48. There were also a few close games in the area. Hamilton beat Spring Lake 48-47 despite a 24 point effort from SL’s Kaden George. In a non-conference game Northview beat Middleville-TK 61-58. Lastly, Zeeland West topped Reeths-Puffer 58-56 thanks to a Carson Gulker game winner. We have a little more action Friday night, so there should be a few more big games.
Best Win: Benton Harbor over Schoolcraft 68-49
Schoolcraft got off to an early 19-14 lead after the first quarter. Benton dominated the next three quarters ending the state's longest winning streak at 33 games. Last night was another difficult game scheduled by Benton Harbor and they will be battle tested come tournament time.
Next Best: Grand Haven over Rockford 35-31
Grand Haven seems to have Rockford’s number handing them their only two losses of the season. It was a big win for Grand Haven who dropped a couple games to West Ottawa and Caledonia last week. The OK Red title race is not over yet with Rockford at 9-2 and Grand Haven along with West Ottawa at 8-3.
