Cranbrook rolls past Shrine 72-56 as post season draws near.

Cranbrook swept past Shrine on the road last night 72-56 in CHSL Intersectional I action.

Senior forward Jordan Roebuck led all scorers with 24 points, while senior forward Sam Hauxwell put in 13 points in a supporting role. Senior forward Jack Fairman and junior guard Cam Garner added 12 and 11 points, respectively. Bryce Hall had 10 rebounds for the Cranes.

Senior forward Stephen Ruhle led the Knights with 13 points, while senior guard Anthony Massucci added 10 point for Shrine.

Roebuck came out with the hot hand, knocking down 5 field goals in the first quarter- including a 3-point shot.

Junior guard Ben Plunckey countered for Shrine, putting in a big 3-point shot and a couple of field goals, but it was not enough to keep pace the Cranes.

Cranbrook led 22-11 at the end of the first quarter.

Ruhle began a charge for the Knights in the second quarter, getting to the free throw line where he would eventually go 4-for-6 on the night. His several field goals pushed Shrine toward a comeback.

Cranbrook led 32-26 at the half.

Massuci and senior guard Noah Goppy continued the rally for Shrine in the third, putting several field goals as the surge continued.

But the Cranes continued their assault, pressing the attack from beyond the 3-point arc. Adding in a timely basket from senior guard Ethan Purther, Cranbrook kept their lead.

The Cranes led 56-43 at the end of the third quarter.

Junior guard Jaylen Ramirez added some firepower for the Knights as they made a last stand, but clutch free throws from Hauxwell and a big 3-pointer from junior guard Miles Pistner sealed the game for the visiting Cranes.

The final scoreboard stood at 72-56 in Cranbrook’s favor, as the post season begins to come in to picture.

Cranbrook anxiously waits for its seeding in the CHSL Tournament which begins February 22. CHSL champs in 2018, the Cranes finished in the semi-final round last year.

The MHSAA State Playoffs begin March 9, where the Cranes made some noise last year by beating perennial powerhouse Detroit Country Day in the district semi-final. Cranbrook exited the playoffs with a loss to Pontiac High in the district championship game.

The Cranes look to do well in both tournaments as the post-season draws near.

Cranbrook continues regular season play at home in a CHSL divisional paring against Ann Arbor Greenhills on Friday. Tip-off is at 7:00 p.m.
